1.4 APOD Rania Shafie

This APOD blog, posted December 6th, 2009, is taken of the comet McNaught. It is considered to be the brightest comet in nearing half a century. The spectacular tail of the comet was visible for observers in the SOuthern Hemisphere. However, the tail was also visible after sunset to several northern observers. The picture was taken just after sunset from the Sliding Spring Observatory in Australia by the Ulysses spacecraft. Also, fun fact: while flying through McNaught;s tail, Ulysses spacecraft discovered that the speed of the solar wind drops significantly inside. I'm presented my project on comets and meteors on Monday so I figured this would be appropriate! I'm nervous I hope it goes well! =)
